the 'compliation' attribute

why use the composer field when you have the 'compilation' attribute? just make a smart playlist that has the one condition: "compilation is set". then name that smart playlist "_Compilations" or something. voila! no misusing ID3 tags.

The reason is that if you use composer attribute, you can navigate compilations by album name on the ipod. If you use the smart playlist method, you loose that information.

What Apple needs to do is keep the functional spec of iTunes library and iPod browser in sync.

Better than Tilde.
Better than Underscore.

Go through the Character Palette and look at the Unicode -> Miscellaneous Symbols section of Lucida Grande.
There are some musical note symbols which I stick at the beginning of playlists I want to be first in the alphabetical list. (Copy and Paste).
The great thing is these character aren't even displayed on the iPod. No odd characters, no question marks, no blank space. It just omits the character but retains the order you have created by using them.

Oh and it's spelt L O S E

So, I said ... well, I can't actually remember exactly what I said. But it was one of the most enormously cruel and frighteningly witty put downs ever.

Indeed the bug problem with this tip is that it wipes out any "real" information you may already have in the Composer field! There's no way to just "add" text to that field... you will be overwriting the contents instead. Ouch.

I think I'll wait for a real fix for this... Apple really should add a "Compilations" choice on the iPod itself.
