Smart playlists can cause slow iTunes launch times
I don't see how you are having this problem. I'm guessing you have a slow hard drive or something else wrong. I would try backing up and replacing your library file, maybe it is corrupt. I have 1965 songs, 6+ days of play time, 12.37 gigs of songs (mostly MP3s, but a few AAC) strewn across 60 smart playlists and 7 normal playlists. iTunes opens in two bounces, on my sawtooth 400. Although the playlists seemed to be the problem in your case, they are not a constant problem. I would suggest a corrupt library file... if you moved all of your songs to a different hard drive, something could have been screwed up in the process. Back up prefs and (most importantly) your library, and replace them. If that doesn't work... well, perhaps it is a RAM or hard drive issue. Either not enough RAM to rip through the smart playlists, or hard drive seek time is horrible or something. I would say it isn't the hard drive, since I don't think mine spins up high enough to be searching for songs on launch. |
