Copy AIM's away message

I can't say I actually understand this hint - maybe because I don't use AOL Instant Messenger.

One alternative approach would be to use iChat instead of AIM. It allows you to select text (and graphics) within a chat and copy/paste it. You can also save complete chat transcripts. iChat uses the AIM service for chatting, so you won't loose the ability to chat with your PC-based buddies.

Copy AIM's away message

I think the author was referring to the actual "Away Message" shown just below your screen name in iChat. It's the auto-response part of the application - you can set it to say "Away", or "I'll be back in 10 minutes", for example, so that when people message you, then get that response regardless of if you're sitting at your computer or not.

Interesting hint, though I must agree with robg that most away messages are so short it'd just be easier to retype it.

Copy AIM's away message

I don't understand why this hint is needed. AIM has two ways to make an away message. One is called "I'm Away..." which is just for quick little messages you make up on the fly.

The other is "Edit Away Messages..." at the bottom of the same menu. Those messages are saved.

In the old days, the "I'm Away..." dialogue box allowed you to check a box to save the message so it would later show up in the menu and thus in the "Edit Away Messages..." options. For some reason, that feature doesn't seem to exist anymore.
