Set screen brightness in FireWire target disk mode

Instead of fiddling with the brightness control, I just restart my PowerBook in target-mode and then put a small magnet on the touch pad. It then thinks the lid has been closed, and switches off the back light.

Contrary to what some posters think, LCD screens do suffer from burn-in. I saw a flatpanel iMac in a store the other day which had the logon-window very cleary burnt into the screen.

This is a very good reason to get an iSight. Not only is the iSight a high quality portable camera, but it comes with a magnetic mount (as well as many other mounts). Turning off your LCD could never be easier than with an iSight; just another reason to get one for yourself!
