Copy text from protected PDFs to other apps

Fantastic. This has solved a problem for me.

I note it also works with other applications which offer a similar function in the Services menu. I've had success with Copy to Tex-Edit Plus, Make new VooDooPad page, clip to NoteBook, Open Selection in iSpeakIt, Summarize and View in Columns (ie in Tofu).

I'd say that if they wanted to sell you the scores in the first place, but put so many restrictions, then it falls in the 'darwin award' type of foolishness, and you should go and buy something else.

Doesn't Work for Me at All
Authored by: m5comp on Jun 27, '04 07:48:45AM

I have a protected PDF that I downloaded from the web a few months ago; only printing is enabled. I don't have Acrobat (Reader doesn't support services); opening this document in Preview, selecting text and then selecting Services-->TextEdit-->New Window Containing Selection results in a blank window. The older hint referred to (opening the print dialog box and then choosing "save as file" from the Print-->Output Options dialog) doesn't work, either. The PDF file format option is grayed-out; although the PostScript option is available, the resulting file can't be converted back to PDF format (double-clicking it produces a conversion error).
