A fix for USB PC CardBus cards on 10.2.8

I know Jaguar users hate to hear "upgrade to Panther," but the latest Panther releases have included massive improvements to USB 2.0 support. For months my shiny new PowerBook was almost completely unable to work with my USB hub because it was a 2.0 hub. I think it wasn't until 10.3.3 that it finally started working correctly. To Apple's credit, it's worked flawlessly ever since.

I'm guessing that since a USB card is required that it's a Wallstreet model that doesn't support 10.3 without XPostFacto which is still a little b3ta for everyday use, hence the stick with 10.2.x

I would also very much like to hear from anyone using a USB card with a Wallstreet running XPF and 10.3.4. Although it is running great on my Wallstreet, I need a USB card for my PDA and MP3 player and I don't know if it will work.

It's a Powerbook G3 Series 300 MHz Wallstreet. It won't run Panther.

Instead of downgrading your whole IOUSBFamily, you can go into /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns and remove the AppleUSBEHCI.kext. Touch /System/Library/Extensions and reboot and you will have removed support for all USB 2.0.

My mom is having a problem with a Sandisk USB 2 CF card reader with her USB 2 sporting iMac G4 running 10.3.4. She has to unplug the reader and plug it back in to get it to do anything whenever she inserts a card. Anyone else have this problem? Is this a sandisk problem or a Mac OS X USB 2 problem? I'm wondering if a different brand of USB 2 CF card reader might work better or if buying a different one would just result in the same problem.
