Good tip re: Date Added playlist. That's probably the first Smart Playlist I created. :-)

If the "Copy files to iTunes Music library when adding to library" preference is unchecked then Option-Delete only removes entries from the music library (and all playlists) but not corresponding files in the music folder. That library vs. folder distinction is often muddled. I remember being uncertain at first whether or not files were being deleted.

iTunes seems begging for improvements to manage multiple music collections stored under different folder hierarchies, regardless of how they're organized. Some "smart-style" preferences to auto-select locations and organizational structures when adding/transcoding files would be useful, reducing the need to futz with Finder and Terminal, or post-process with AppleScript, to do those things. The ability to conveniently work with different music folders directly within iTunes is a higher priority for me than having multiple libraries.

Btw, Command-R is a handy shortcut for Show Song File.
