How to avoid the new 'Help' URL handler vulnerability
Authored by: clindberg on May 19, '04 04:26:29PM
Another option is to use my RCDefaultApp preference pane, which is sort of like MoreInternet except that it also allows setting helpers for file extensions, file types, and MIME types.

I just updated it today with version 1.1, which adds the ability to "disable" a URL scheme (or one of the other types) by assigning it to a private application that will do nothing with it (the app loads in the background, then quits). This can be used to disable the help: and/or disk: URL schemes until a better fix is available (setting them back to the original apps is just as easy).

I replaced MoreInternet with RCDefaultApp months ago. :-)
Thanks, Carl.
