Copy Microsoft Word files onto other machines

Many users assume that to copy a Word file from one machine to another you have to print the document, then retype it on the other machine. Not true. A little understood feature of computers is that you can directly transfer digital files from one machine to another.

First, copy the Word file to external media--it could be a CD, another hard drive, a USB flash drive, a Zip drive, and on older computers, it could even be a floppy disk. You can copy anything on your computer, Word files certainly, but also other types of files, such as iTunes Music Store songs. Then, connect the external media to another computer and copy the file to the new machine. You can then open the file just like you could on the original computer.

This is a great way to make backups of your important data, and also to have a copy in your work computer.
