Copy iTunes Music Store songs onto other machines

It kills me that whenever i see a hint about transferring music from iTunes, NO ONE ever mentions how you can just drag the song out of iTunes and into a folder.

So heres the hint:

Just select multiple songs in iTunes, and drag them OUT of iTunes and on to your desktop or a new folder. Done. Now drag that to a new computer on your network, and you're done as well. Its as simple as that, and no one ever mentions it.

Isn't it also possible to drag them directly from iTunes to the network drive?
If you first drag to the desktop I think you are making a copy (or moving) of the original file that would have to be thrown away.
