Create customized color palettes

I don't see how the color wells are considered "almost useless" but adding the ability to name colors makes this a great hint...

I wish someone would make a Web Smart Colors palette.

There is a web-smart color palette. Choose the middle icon and then pick "web safe" from the drop-down list (which says "Apple" by default).

The Web Smart colour palette is not the same thing as the Web Safe colour palette.

morecrayons has a good web picker and explantion. It's a bit like a web safe palette for this decade (now that so few people have 256 colour monitors).

Yes, I meant the Web-Smart palette, for us designers who want more than 356 colors.

The color palette actually has an awesome feature that lets you use any image as a color map – If only I could find an image of all the web smart colors somewhere. Most of the online color pickers just give you a regular color wheel of all the colors, but when you roll over them it gives you their web-smart matches. The Cubes on the site you linked is almost it, but unfortunately it has layers covered up, so you can't see all the colors at once.

Web smart vs web safe

I have made a palette consisting of the sixteen web smart greys. Just not the whole 4000 odd colours :) What we need is somewhere to exchange these things.
