Open Safari Google contextual searches in new tabs
Authored by: type88 on Apr 22, '04 07:50:24PM

I am not sure if I am misreading this hint or not, but I thought I would share my method. When I want to do a google search I press cmd-L, tab, type my search text, and then I hold down the cmd button when pressing return.

A new tab opens up, but the current tab stays in focus. I do not have 'select new tabs when they are created' in my preferences. When I am ready to look at the search results, cmd-shift-right arrow gets me there.

Mouse-free and proud of it.

Hope this helps.

Open Safari Google contextual searches in new tabs

It would not open in a background tab if you do not have that option clicked (unless you hold the shift modifier as well. which will reverse your behavior). Also, hitting Apple-Option-F will bring you directly to the Google Search field, rather than having to tab over to it.
