You could just use VLC instead.

VLC vs DVD Player

Mmm. It's got pretty good.

I find I use both these days. VLC crashes and freezes quite a lot (especially when using the DVD menus, for some reason -- I often turn 'em off), and although DVD Player isn't immune to crashes, it's still substantially more stable. It also wins for navigation; it can display the time and title/chapter, and makes skipping between them easier.

But VLC has other advantages: it can bypass region restrictions, skip copyright notices &c, bypass the menus (handy for finding easter eggs &c), and tends to have better picture quality. Plus it can play lots of other things as well as DVDs.

If they sorted out the stability and navigation issues, I'd probably never touch Apple's player.
