The way I did this...
I had the same problem as G-Mantle above: I used to use the checked songs method of deciding what songs got rotated onto my iPod and which songs didn't. I accidentally cmd-unchecked all 1200 songs one day; very frustrating. Instead of using the incredibly fragile check box system, what I did was give a one-star rating to all the songs I wanted kept out of rotation on the iPod, and leave the ratings blank on all other songs. Then I made a Smart Playlist that ignored songs with one-star ratings. Easy peasy.

I use a similar method to restrict my work iPod to 5GB of my best and most relevant music. |
