Yes, but how many open windows?
Currently, 15 GUI apps (including Terminal -- I think that counts) are open on my desktop, but at least 60 windows. Exposé would be nearly useless on my 17" screen except for the fact that it doesn't show windows of hidden apps. (I find I don't use it much anyway.)
Whence so many windows? Around 20 program files open in BBEdit, 4 Terminal windows, 9 windows in X11, a few Mail.app messages, over a dozen Finder windows, several TeXShop documents (LaTeX code, console, and preview windows for each), half dozen Safari windows (multiple open tabs in each), Preview, etc., etc.... with just one for iTunes. For me this is a pretty normal usage load -- maybe even a bit low. I'm amazed by the folks running fewer than 7 apps at once!

Well, I've currently go around 50:
Yes, but how many open windows?
Right now, I have three finder windows, one Safari w/ 18 tabs open, two Firefox with a total of 42 tabs open (all but three in one window), the Mail.app window, five documents plus the floating windows in Word, two Terminals, Sherlock, Toast 6, one Preview w/26 pages, CarraFix, four BitTorrent, Addressbook, 2 iChat, Quicktime player (running, but no windows), VLC, two Photoshop windows, and one Adobe Imageready.

IMHO, anyone who has under ten apps open isn't using their computer properly!IMHO, anyone with 50 windows open at once needs to relax a bit and make more efficient use of their applications features. ;) |
