Control iTunes from any application via the keyboard...

Um, if this is a way to control iTunes from the keyboard, I don't see how. Perhaps I missed noticing a feature of X-keys. All it seems to do is pop up a set of on-screen controls, which you must use the mouse upon. Moreover, you have to hold down the X-keys hotkey combo the entire time you're doing this, so it becomes a 2-handed operation, with one hand on the mouse. That's not quite keyboard control.

SizzlingKeys4iTunes, however, is exactly that: keyboard control for iTunes. You can set keys for next/prev song, up/down volume, pause, mute, and even 'semi-mute'. I'm using it now, and it seems to work perfectly. The default hotkeys are easily changed [I based all mine around the Control key, since it's so seldom used in Mac apps -- so far!].

I downloaded X-Tunes and "sk4it". With X-Tunes, the idea seems to be to hold down a key combo such as command-space with one hand, and with the other hand, press the arrow keys for next/prev track and volume up/down, or press return for pause/play. Not great, but maybe usable for some people.

Right now I'm trying "sk4it". And I just found out that you really have to change the default key combos, at least if you're like me---while typing the previous paragraph I wanted to back up a few words, which is option+left arrow, and unfortunately that's the "prev. track" combo. Dang, did it again.

Time to fix that...
