Classic and my scanner
There's only one reason why I still use classic and that's because UMAX is too incompetent to build native OSX driver software for my scanner. It is an Astra 4450 and I have to use the Classic scanning software just to use it. Unfortunately, according to the VueScan website: "All UMAX USB models except 3400 (some versions), 5400 and PowerLook 180" is unsupported so that doesn't help much and SANE doesn't like my scanner either so I'm pretty much stuck in Classic world until 1) UMAX releases some OSX stuff or 2) I buy a new scanner ... looks like it might be the 2nd choice but that's not going to happen for about a year or so. Bleh ...
Classic and my scanner
Have you looked at VueScan? Two of my clients were able to carry their ageing UMAX SCSI scanners forward into Mac OS X with that software.
Classic and my scanner
Yup ... just did... downloaded it, installed it, tried it ... doesn't work. The Apple Profiler knows the scanner is there but VueScan won't pick it up. I think it's because the scanner is a USB scanner instead of a SCSI. For some weird reason or another, most UMAX USB scanners won't work with it ... beats me why ...
Classic and my scanner
I think some of the USB UMAX Astras are really serial-based, they just have USB tacked on the outside, and this is why VueScan doesn't work. Quite annoying, really.
Classic and my scanner
yup. you nailed it. i have the same scanner and it is serial on the inside converted to usb at plug-in port. |
