Fax with a Bluetooth GSM (Nokia 6600) in Panther
Authored by: mozart11 on Mar 19, '04 01:04:31PM

I use my Titanium to dial my SE Z600 (not the 6600) to connect to the internet via GPRS with AT&T. Works fine.

I would love to get this Fax hint to work with this phone to fax, but I can't seem to get. My phone is always paired. I use it with iSync and Salling Clicker.

When I create a new profile in Bluetooth Serial Utility. Create one and have the option of Modem or RS-232. Then I'm forced to choose Select device. I do and see the Z600 selected. But now I'm I'm forced to select one of the following:
OBEX File Transfer
Dial-up Networking
Voice Getway
Serial Port 1
Serial Port 2
OBEX Objuct Push
IrMC Synchronization
HF Voice gateway
OBEX Basic Imaging

I've tried some without success. Is there something I'm missing?

My setup is just the same as above except I have a T616. What do I choose. When I choose one of the settings (eg serial port 2), the phone starts to dial for a second but then stops and the fax goes to a hold mode.
Please advise. This hint sounds amazing. I'd love to get it to work.

One answer to Nimitz question.

To answer your last question Nimitz, go to Print Setup Utility, and from one of the pull down menus, choose Fax List. From there you can select/unselect and delete fax profiles.

on this page at oreillynet.com, some users indicate that you must contact your phone service provider to enable faxing.

For t-mobile (my provider), it would be an additional $9.99/month. Not worth it to me.

I believe you have to have a different type of account to do this. There are two ways to connect to the internet via a GSM phone. One is dialing over GSM, the other (GPRS) just sends packets. From what I understand, when you "dial" you are actually using a remote modem out there somewhere. Your account has to be flagged to be able to do this.

Anyway, I know that is not the best explanation but I think there is a lot of confusion in general surrounding these technologies. I can't even get a straight answer out of my cellular provider.
