Close PowerBook lid without sleeping the machine

You can use a PowerBook lid-closed by just simulating a monitor. This can be done with the VGA dongle and a VGA terminator (the geeks in the audio/visual industry know where to get these). You can also use a 75-ohm terminator on the s-video connector. These can be found at a parts store with a BNC connector. A BNC-RCA adaptor will connect this to the s-video dongle and is smaller and simpler than it sounds.

Now that the PB thinks it has an external monitor attached, how to power it up? On all the PBs I've tried, while the PB is off press the power button and close the lid immediately.

I keep the video dongle w/terminator in my kit for the occasion to network the PB to another machine to share files. I once left my old Lombard running as a small server for weeks without a problem.
