In your Display Preferences settings, you can turn off the Press Release category by putting a checkmark next to the topic name. You won't see another announcement, regardless of how many are posted. That's the beauty of the database-driven site -- you control what you want to see (try that trick on any of the other news sites).

PR will never be a focus for the site (only 15 PR announcements out of 1,005 articles), but if I think something is of general interest to the readers, I'll probably post it.

If there's enough groundswell against Press Releases, I'd certainly consider dropping the category, but most of the feedback I've received on PR announcements has been positive. So if you hate 'em, let me know and if I hear enough negative responses, they'll be gone...
