Open downloaded files directly from Safari 1.2
Ahh, that's a convenient way to sidestep Finder for processing a bunch of EyeTV .tvpi files downloaded from TitanTV. Thanks!

I'm amazed.
Mac OS X is littered with little clickable badges, most offer tool tips and if the case here, writes "show it Finder" underneath when you move the mouse over it. How is this a hint? Are we soon going the get hints that pressing the 'Cancel' button in the shutdown dialog box will cancel a shutdown? That's just as (un)obvious.

This may have been obvious to you, but judging from the other replies, it wasn't to everyone - I certainly know I probably wouldn't have figured it out. It's a handy time-saving little trick that's not obvious to everyone, so, yes, it does qualify as a hint.

In previous versions of Safari, I think most of us were shocked that you *couldn't* double-click on the file icon to open it. The "show it in the finder" feature you mention has not been a very good substitute, so a lot of us are pretty happy to have the "obvious" feature returned. But we had no reason to suspect that they had finally gotten around to fixing it, having gotten used to clicking the magnifying glass in order to have more windows pile up in the finder just so that we can double-click the icon somewhere else. |
