A quick fix for Belkin mouse button failures

I've had similar problems with my Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel mouse. I've found that unplugging the keyboard from the monitor USB port and plugging it back in fixes the problem.

Simply unplugging the Trackman from the keyboard and plugging it back in again rarely works. Besides, the problem mostly occurs on restart or boot and makes the keyboard unresponsive too.

I used to keep the original Apple optical mouse plugged in to the other side of the keyboard because moving it around a little bit often, but not always, got the Logitech Trackman and keyboard working again.

I find that right clicking on the desktop then left clicking gets my mouse in order. My MX500 will also grab Safari (and only Safari) and drag it around the screen as if I was holding the button down. I clear that up by alt-tab to another app.

I have a marble mouse and an iBook, so I can't unplug the keyboard without opening the case. What should I do?
