10.3: How to restore the fast user switch cube effect
Authored by: per4manz on Feb 20, '04 08:50:59AM

I have a LaCie 19" Electron Blue attached to dual 867 G4, so I know I have Quartz Extreme. The display settings are the same throughout all user accounts (just checked) and I still don't get the Cube effect. My feeling is that once you excede a certain resolution, the effect is deactivated by default (I am running 1600x1200@85Mhz).

VRAM limitation

Exactly.

But, I think it's VRAM dependent (although it could be just GPU dependent). I have a Ti G4 800 MHz DVI (1st gen) with 32 MB of VRAM (Mobility 7500), and a co-worker has the next model up, the 1GHz DVI with 64 MB of VRAM (Mobility 9000). He gets the cube at 1600x1200 and I don't.
