Just use the track > split command from the menubar.
Works for all kind of loops.

That is a very good way to do it, however, the trouble with this and the original Hint was that it deletes the region sequencing. What Apple needs to do is fix this bug so that you can shorten the start with the ability to lengthen without information loss.

No, we can keep "cut", because there is a more simple solution than the hint : you can place the timeline cursor at the point you want and use Command T to cut the loop and get two parts. Then you delete the first part and keep the other.
