In 1.1, you could download something to your Download folder via the contextual menu item, without having a Save dialog pop up. This is changed in 1.2---a save dialog always comes up.
Not exactly the same
I used to gripe that when I wanted to save a file ONLY ONCE via the Contextual Menu's (CM's) "Download Linked File" option to a location other than the default download folder, that I'd have to make TWO trips to the General Pref's to set and reset the Download folder.
The new way is very kludgey feeling (maybe cuz I'm getting used to it), but the direct download to the Downloads folder has been moved from just a Right Click, to an Option+Right Click. (You can press option before or after you Right Click, btw....doesn't matter.) It'll change between Download Linked File As.. and Download Linked File depending on whether you have the Option key pressed at the time you actually select the contextual menu item. I guess Apple is implying that if you just want to download a given link straight away, you need to Option+Click the link. If you want to set a special target directory for the download, you go to the CM with a Right Click. |
