One thing that I do with resource intensive applications (such as Reason, Photoshop, etc., even games) is to create "workspace" accounts and use fast user switching to access them. With this, you can create an account that uses minimal resources (as in turning off ethernet, airport, any extraneous background processes...) and devote most everything to your one running app. If you need to check e-mail, just "cube" on over to your main account... If you are the only one on your machine, you can create these accounts as non-admin, no password to speed things up in transition (since these accounts have no internet/localnet access, this should be pretty secure). This is almost like switching to a separate machine dedicated to one app! |
