How to set up an IOGear USB Print Server
Authored by: digitaltvguy on Jan 26, '04 09:14:40PM

I used the demo version of Intermapper to "locate" the print server. Since it defaults to DHCP it is a way to discover the current IP of the IOGear print server.

Once the IP is located, you can set up the print server using the built in http server and set it to a static address.

By the way for those who don't know, the IOGear print server is an ultra-cheap print server ($50) about the size of an egg.

How to set up an IOGear USB Print Server
Authored by: edman on Feb 16, '04 07:08:04AM

Thanks for sharing the process... without this instructions there was no way I would had gotten my usb print server to work. I am using the Hawkings print server and it sound that overall it is easier to installed than the IOgear one (once you read the Gimp-print instructions). I am running Jaguar 10.8 on a PB Ti 1Gz and the Hawkings setup is nice because you can access the server with the internet broser (i used explorer to ensure compatibility). Now my Canon S600 is up an runing (using the S800 drive as the S600 is not directly supported) and I am able to use it from both my "work" IBM T41 W2K and my "home" Ti.

How to set up an IOGear USB Print Server

Ed, How did you get the Hawking print server to work?! I have tried and tried to set the IP address of the printserver using an ethernet cable and opening terminal and using the arp command to set an IP address (in the same range as the ethernet port) to the print server's MAC address. I am going to give up on this thing! Their tech support couldn't make it work. The Apple guy at CompUSA couldn't make it work. Any help appreciated..

Just find the IOGear USB Print Server via Rendezvous
Authored by: Brandon White on Mar 05, '05 03:48:43PM

There's an easier way to initially locate this print server, because the device is Rendezvous-enabled (or whatever we'll eventually call Rendezvous).

When you plug in the IOGear Print Server, it grabs an IP address from your LAN's DHCP server or router, then begins broadcasting its own presence via Rendezvous. You then launch Safari at your computer, open Safari preferences, click the Bookmarks pane, and click "Include Rendezvous" in your Bookmarks Bar setting. From there, you'll have a folder in your Bookmarks Bar that lists all the Rendezvous web sites found. Your IOGear Print Server's web interface will be one of the available Rendezvous websites available. Hit that site and configure away.

In my experience, none of this was true with Hawking Tech's competing device, making the choice of IOGear's product an easy one.
