Use a menu extra to get unread Mail count in all mailboxes

Figures.... I wish I could apply the customizability of TheUnread with the dock-oriented notification of MailEnhancer.

Hi, this is Peter Schart (I am schartworks, and I long time macosxhints reader). I just have The Unread as a menu bar item because my Dock is always hidden. I usually write programs the way I use them, release them, then sit back and wait for people to tell me what they'd like to see (works for me since I'm just one guy and don't have a marketing and research department) - I'm very receptive to feedback from users (just ask all the people that told me, "please get rid of the flashing score help - it makes my head hurt" in reference to early versions of my game DooZee).

I could fairly easily make it appear in the Dock instead of (or in addition to) the menu bar with a badge like Mail has. I have a few bugs to clear up and a few new features that are almost ready to release. I'll toy with adding the ability to have a Dock icon as well.

p.s. Thanks to cfoster for the kudos in posting this "hint" - I swear I don't know who he/she is and did not put them up to it! ;)

Sounds great. I posted the original request. I tried both apps today, and of the two, I prefer The Unread for the ability to choose which folders are polled, but I would definitely prefer to get the unread count in the dock. I'll look forward to updates. :)

Earlier today as I went to check my mail, I thought to myself, "Self, wouldn't it be great if there was a quick way to see how many e-mails, if any, were waiting for me in my sub-folders in my mail".

I *was* thinking in terms of the mail icon on the Dock, but, since I keep my Dock hidden - your solution is even better.

Thanks!
