.mac solution

Nice to know About this. its a hideously ugly problem when you have to confront it. There are a few non-freeware apps that purport to do this but I found them a giant buggy snarl.

the one way I way I did transfer the messages flawlessly was to use .mac ( or any imap server). create a .mac imap folder in outlook, drag messages into it, syncronize it. go to mail.app, syncronize it and drag the folders out.

the only problems with this rather archane but 100% effective foolproof approach are its a tad slow since you are sending your files across the interent twice. and you can only do the trnasfers in 15Mb lumps since that's the size of you mac.com e-mail limit
