10.3: A possible fix for a black screen during install

Lombards have been having RAM problems since the first 10.2.8 update. Apple fixed the problem with Lombards and RAM (Lombards with more than 256 (386?) MB of RAM will freeze under high RAM/CPU load) in the reposted 10.2.8 update, but the original 10.3 and the 10.3.1 updates also have this issue.

Like the other post in this thread says, the easiest way to kill your Lombard with RAM in the top slot is to run a repair permissions on your machine. I've just recently rebuilt my wife's Lombard, and put in her extra 256MB of RAM (upping it to the full 512MB) and so far with 10.3.2, everything seems fine.

To anyone having problems during the install of Panther or under high CPU load, especially on Lombards, I'd recommend taking things down to 256MB of RAM and install, then update to 10.3.2. Once done, reinstall the RAM and all should be fine.
