Everyone I know who got the flu shot got sick. I've never had the flu shot, and I've never gotten sick. You do the math.

Happy New Year ... and we're (nearly) back to normal...

That's purely anecdotal, and dangerous.

Those friends of yours who have received the influenza vaccine most likely received the common cold.

Completely different viruses.

This link, which points to a CDC Website, provides a simple table which describes the differences between the common-cold ∓ the flu.

If you actually got the flu, like I did, and was laid up in the Hospital for three days with a Potassium drip in your i.v. (which has got to be the most God-awful thing in the world), then maybe you'd understand.

I didn't used to get the flu shot, because I never had the flu (until that year), but ever since (some 8 years later) I never miss a year.

I may still get sick (there is no vaccine for the cold), but my parents are now in their late 70's and their immune system is no where near as good as mine, so to reduce the risk of me passing anything on to them I get it, as well.

Now, this year was a little different because a different strain of the virus than the doctors originally predicted showed up. This link (again, from the CDC) explains why this season was so bad.

So, before spouting off like Chicken Little with claims which you can't substantiate, try doing a little research first.

I'm sorry for being such a pr*ck about this, but your comment has been the proverbial straw which has broken my back on this subject. Most citizens have absolutely no clue what goes into making the vaccine and making it available and it's freakin' sad. It's my firm belief that one of the reasons this season was so abnormally bad was because of people who thought just like you.

If you have to apologize about being a pr*ck, then perhaps you shouldn't have acted that way in the first place.

If someone is relying on a random post in a computer support forum for advice on health concerns, perhaps they get what they deserve.

I DO know the difference between the common cold, and influenza. My observations, and you are correct, they are purely anecdotal, are from this current flu season, and several years earlier.
