Specify the domain in SMB login strings
Authored by: vampyre on Jan 30, '04 05:24:30AM

Hi all,

I have used the smb login strings to much success except recently, when my company installed some firewall setup and I'm no longer 'given permission' to some folders, i.e., I'll get a syserr and fail to log in using the SMB login strings. It is not true as I can still log on to those same folders in WinXP.

It is strange as some other folders are not affected, although on a different domain. I notice those which I can't access are having the 'shortcut' icons when I do a Browse Network. Of cause when I double click on them in Browse Network, they disappear in my Finder Network window with the message that they can't be opened cuz original item cannot be found. Is this (shortcut) the reason? That they are actually links only and SMB doesn't 'work' here?

I'll appreciate if someone can shed some light as I really need to access those folders. I'm even willing to switch back to Jaguar if I have to.

Cheers,
Danny
