just thought I would expand the URL a bit more to add:

smb://WORKGROUP;User:Password@machine.somewhere.com/Share/

And this works for AFP url's too, though you'd exclude the WORKGROUP item.

I use this format a lot, and if you get this added to the keychain, it's really cool. Of course leaving off the password item does make it more secure if you happen to add it to the favorites list in connect to.

Location files

And this also works with location files. Select the URL and drag it to the desktop. You now have a clickable location file that you can put in the Dock for easy access. I've been looking for a way to make this work with smb, but haven't figured out the bit about the workgroup.
