Use Open Office for longer battery life on laptops

I do most of my writing in TextEdit, in plain text mode. For just taking notes and concentrating on writing rather than formatting, it can't be beat. Most other text editors are designed for programmers.

In rtf mode, TextEdit serves as a decent word processor. It can even read Word documents.

And why would you use that behemoth vi in a console section? Talk about bloat! "Ed is the standard text editor."
