And if your fingers don't stretch that far...you can then add the SHIFT key into the mix, and it'll cycle backwards through the applications list.

So, a Cmd-Tab followed by a Cmd-Shift-Tab puts you back in your original application.

I also use Cmd-Shft-Tab to quickly get to the last application in the list, since the cycling wraps around; that is, Cmd-Shift-Tab initially selects the right-most application, instead of the leftmost.

After you've activated application switching, you can also switch backwards by pressing command-`.
