Ah, the tip about deleting to regenerate a random selection was very useful - I'd created random lists in the past, but puzzled over how to regenerate the song selection - shame it can't be regenerated each time the playlist is selected, but I guess that's a job for Applescript or Folder Actions...

Another brief, basic Smart Playlist tip I find useful; I sometimes have to rip CDs while I'm not connected to the web and then grab CDDB info later on. I created a Playlist that selects any song whose title begins with "Track", as all songs are automatically titled "Track 1" and so on - pick the playlist, select all, and Get CD Track Names is all I need to do for any number of albums when I'm back online. So simple it's practically dumb, but I've used it a fair amount...
