Search by telephone number in Address Book weird in Panther

This was possible in Jaguar also, however I believe it was more flexible in Jaguar. In Jaguar you could search for one part of the phone number (the last four digits for example). I used that feature a lot. Just type in the last four digits of a phone number and 99% of the time it would narrow it down to one address book entry.

In Panther it didn't seem to work. I got really frustrated because I didn't know how I was going to look up phone numbers anymore!

Just this week I figured out that you have to type in the ENTIRE phone number FROM THE BEGINNING. The Panther address book has a new feature that will auto format phone numbers for you. I believe that this feature disables the search's ability to find just one part of a phone number you are looking for.

I think it is a huge waste of time to have to type in an entire 10 digit phone number. I would like to be able to search off of just the last 4 numbers again. Does anyone know a way around this?

in fact, you'll notice that if you type even the few LAST digits IN REVERSE (!) it works ! (well, why, I dunno !)
