You can set the date and time in the terminal as 'root' by typing:
date yyyymmddhhmm.ss
I find this far quicker than the graphical tool.

robh - thanks for that one - I was pretty sure there must be a command-line equivalent. I think my mom will get a bigger "ooooooh" out of dragging the hands of the clock around the face ;-). Then again, that's the beauty of OS X - there seem to be at least two ways of doing everything, thanks to the UNIX core.

... and there's usually more than 2 ways to do everything in Perl too :-)
