The Hosts file works nicely without the need of any configuration at all in Panther.

Yeah, like I said, it's strange. The notice is there in DA, but you don't have to touch anything for hosts to work.
I have the same problem ... changes to hosts file won't work until I restart machine
I have had this problem since Panther ... I did a clean install; no upgrade. If anyone comes up with a specific solution to this, thank you in advance.
Solution: changes to hosts file won't work until I restart machine
Verify that lookupd is set to use flat files (/etc/hosts) for hostname lookup. Run the command "lookupd -configuration". Look for the lines like this: |
