If you install important things from Disk Images--especially if you install system updates manually instead of with Software Update--I highly recommend *not* doing this.

I got burned pretty badly by skipping checksums when I installed the 10.2.8 update from what turned out to be a slightly corrupted disk image. The install completed, but it rendered my entire system non-bootable. Only the fact that I had a second bootable partition kept it from being a total nightmare.
