Is there a similar way to jump to the Address bar? That is the one thing that IE on the PC had that I always liked... Alt-D would jump to the address bar and highlight the text.

I believe you are looking for Command-L (Open Location under the File menu)

Command-L (Open Location) Jumps to the Address in Safari

To jump to the address field in IE and Safari use command L
This also highlights any text therein
