I have been using this since panther came out. I did a test backing up 12 gb of data using retrospect w/verify turned on. over ethernet this action took 4 hrs 32 min. Over firewire it took 3hrs 26 min.

How does one setup this Firewire file sharing with two macs?

Do the same steps for the Mac on the other Mac, only this time using 10.0.0.2, instead of 10.0.0.1. It might even be smart enough such that you don't have to set a new IP. Windows isn't.

By the way, there's a bug in my hint: the FTP URL should be:
ftp://10.0.0.1/~your username/
Note the tilde.

Hmm can you help me? i just got a mac for the office and I am having trouble transferring from pc to mac using a direct comp to comp (via a ethernet cable). can it be done? dont care about speed |
