10.3: A fix for sending mail via an SSH tunnel in Mail
Authored by: houchin on Nov 13, '03 12:41:32PM

I submitted a related hint yesterday, but I have discovered that Panther has many problems connecting to localhost. For example, if you're using Authoxy as a proxy server, lots of connections just don't go through.

I discovered that problem is specific to connecting to "localhost," not to connecting through the loopback interface or to your own machine. Using "127.0.0.1" instead of "localhost" solved all my problems.

I use to use 127.0.0.1 for one mail account, and Mail wouldn't allow another 127.0.0.1 (which would work as I was using another port number). I ended up using 127.0.1 and 127.1 as well (you'll have to resort to adding hostnames if you want more then 4 diffrently named localhosts).
