For those trying to add menu items followed by "..." as in System Preferences... The "..." at the end is not made by typing 3 periods. Apple uses a single character (Unicode 2026, Horizontal Ellipsis) which can be inserted by using the Punctuation section of the Character Pallete utility.

You can also type an ellipsis using option-semicolon. Should be the same Unicode #, but I'm not sure.

This depends on the program--PowerMail, for one, does require 3 periods.
