Create a more dynamic fstab using UUIDs
Authored by: mjtomlin on Nov 01, '03 03:00:56AM

"Be sure that you record the uuids the first time you see them, it becomes annoying to mount and unmount drives more than necessary to get the uuids."

If you use the raw device (rdisk1s10) instead of the associated block device (disk1s10), then it doesn't matter if a volume is mounted or not. You will be able to get the UUID.

Create a more dynamic fstab using UUIDs

if you have more then 2 hard drives, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc drives randomly choose raw device ids, making your solution useless (trust me, i've tried, it could be different with panther, but i doubt it.)

vacuums do not suck. they merely provide an absence that allows other objects to take the place of what becomes absent.
