10.3: Software Compatibility
I just broke open 3 retail box copies of OX 10.3 and I am so terrified on the effects of my system. I followed the previous posting on how to prep for the upgrade but I am more concerned about the functionality of my apps. I just called apple and this is what the guy tells me, "Generally, if your software does not function normally than it may not be compatible." So, initially my call was about if FileMaker 5.5 v2 would work in 10.3 but i also have other apps that I use frequently. Can anyone point me to a resource that has a software compatibility chart for 10.3? Here are the main apps I am concerned about:
10.3: Software Compatibility
Well, by compatible, if you mean that these applications will launch, let you open a file, let you edit a file, let you create a file and save such files, here is what i can tell you:
FileMaker Pro v.5.5 - seems to work just as before. Lets me connect to my FM Pro server. Lets me create standalone files, etc. Photoshop 7.01, Illustrator 10.3, Acrobat 6 - all seem to work OK, although I run into a strange visual anomoly w/PS 7 in the open/save dialog. Because Panther takes over the dialogs with it's "Finder-like" open/save dialogs, the left sidebar doesn't always show all items correctly. It seems to show what it can, but if you resize the dialog, parts disappear, at least for me. Kinda hard to explain. Anyone else have that? Quark 6 - don't have it so I can't say anything about it. I did notice that running QuarkXPress 4.11 under Classic doesn't leave artifacts under my dock when I switch to another app or hide XPress, etc. as it did under Jaguar. That's nice. Flash MX, Dreamweaver MX - I don't have these either, although I've heard scattered reports of some issues with Macromedia apps on Panther. I don't remember the specifics. Check around for that though. Toast Titanium 5.2 - I just burned a CD (Mac/PC Extended hybrid) with it a few minutes ago. No issues whatsoever. Haven't tested all formats though, like DVD-R, IS0, etc. so YMMV. MS Office/Word, etc - I've run all apps except Entourage, which I don't use, and they all work fine as far as I can tell. Remote Desktop - You'll need to make sure you d/l Apple's updated RD software from Software update. After that, it seems to work A-O-K. Norton AV - Don't have this. I use Virex (.Mac member), and that works OK. Can't speak for Norton AV though. I hope this helps somewhat. |
