10.3: How do I switch apps AND HIDE the background apps without showing or using the dock

Does anybody know how to automagically hide the other apps when you switch to a new one (sort of like holding down option when switching under some other switching methods in the past)? I'd prefer to not have to use an extra modifier in addition to command-tab if possible (i.e. hiding the other apps should be the default behavior).

With LiteSwitch you just hit the "A" key when you have tabbed to the app you want in front
