Along the lines of working with the toolbar...
Cmd clicking on the aqua rectangle changes the display of icons and text.
1 - smaller icon and smaller text
2 - normal icon and no text
3- smaller icon and no text
4 - no icon and normal text
5 - no icon and smaller text

This is also true for mail.app and perhaps other programs which use the toolbar.

Not true for me in 10.2.8 ... unless I misunderstand what you mean, CMD-clicking the little button in the top-right corner of a Finder window doesn't do anything differently than merely clicking it.
