G5 keyboard fails on certain Belkin Omniview KVM switches
Authored by: blalor on Oct 20, '03 01:20:38PM

I'm using an IOGear MiniView III with my G5 and a Compaq box running XP Pro. I was bitterly disappointed to discover that the fancy buttons (volume up/down and play/pause and stop) on my Logitech keyboard don't work with this KVM. Apparently that's because the KVM emulates the keyboard and mouse to allow one computer to boot when the other's accepting input from the keyboard and mouse. The KVM apparently emulates the lowest common denominator.

The other problem I had (not related directly to the KVM) is that the apple/command and alt keys are physically switched between the Logitech keyboard and the Apple keyboard. This caused the command key to pop up the Start menu under Windows when using the Apple keyboard and the Logitech keyboard's alt key didn't trigger the command keypress. I got around this problem by using DoubleCommand to swap the alt and command keys on the G5 using the Logitech keyboard.

If you have not done so, install the latest Logitech softeware for your keyboard. One I installed the Logitech center my Logitech keyboard on my G4 worked perfectly.
