Using folder action scripts to create multi-view single windows
Authored by: bluehz on Oct 19, '03 08:26:10AM

I have never been able to get Folder Actions to work reliably. This is another case in point. I thought I would give this hint a try so I created a new "Top" dir in my "Documents" dir then d/l FA_Windowing scripts and thought I would set it up so every time I opened "Top" it would zoom full screen (covering the true desktop completely) and be in icon mode. So I launch the "Attach Folder Action" script, select my new "Top" dir, and go through the process of setting the size, position, view, etc as per instruction. These settings are supposedly saved for the chosen window. Now I close the "Top" window and create a shortcut to it in my Window toolbar for instant access.... and what happens...

... if I click the "Top" shortcut in my toolbar the "Top Window" does indeed open (hey now thats a starting point), but it doesn't do anything else but flash a few times. Doesn't return to the view and size I had previously set, instead it simply appears in whatever view the previous window was viewed as.

Per instructions - I have disabled Finder Prefs "Open in new window" and have enabled/disabled folder action scripts several times to reset it. Still no luck...

Note that this scenario is not unlike every folder action script I have ever tried. They never seem to work even close to how they are supposed to work.

Any suggestions?
